Time for a New Pair of Glasses

School is back in session and annual health check-ups are underway. I can thank my mom for setting a good example and always prioritizing annual appointments. As the temperatures start to cool and school supplies are stacked in Target that’s my sign that it’s time to book my annual check-ups.

Today called for a visit to the Eye Doctor. I have a very low prescription for driving at night, but lately I’ve been experiencing slight headaches and my eyes are a little drier than usual. As we age things change, shift and evolve. For the first time, I wasn’t able to confidently answer when the Optometrist asked me to read the smallest line of text. Living in Denver, it’s very dry. The dry climate, strain from blue light and aging has started to impact my eyes and my prescription has increased. Which leads me to this post, I’m due for a new pair of glasses!

I have one pair of glasses that I love from Warby Parker, therefore I’m opting to order another. I love their styles and quality for the price point - plus, I’m able to get one frame a year covered by my insurance (Thanks VSP!). I also recently learned about their commitment to serve those who are visually impaired through their Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program.

Frame Options

A few Things I Considered

Frame Width: Identify if I’ll need narrow, medium or wide frames given the shape of my face.

Frame Usage: How long and how frequently will you be wearing your frames? In what conditions? Are they statement frames? Or will they need to be versatile? I’ll be mostly wearing them a few hours a day when doing computer work.

Frame Weight & Comfort: Given I’ll be wearing them less, I’m opting to go with a weightier pair that reflects my personal style.

Frame Style: I opt to wear classic staple shirts and sweaters during the workday, therefore I want a pair of frames that are more of a statement piece.

Lens Preferences: There are a variety of lens options, I added on the blue-light-filting. I was interested in the anti-fatigue option but the woman at the store said she didn’t think it was necessary for me.

Given that I’m still relatively new to the glasses game, would love to know if there are any other companies, considerations or tips. Leave a comment below.
